Ben Gurion University (BGU), Israel — “Lateral Motion” is our latest project with artist Phlyssa Koshland. The artist provided a 1:4 maquette of the sculpture. Ben Gurion University (BGU) in Israel dedicated a large (33’ x 14’) wood-paneled wall at the National Institute for Biotechnology in Nagev for the sculpture. EDD’s role was to build, finish, deliver, and install it in Israel.
Scope of work involved conversion of the model in to 3D shop drawings. Design and fabrication of custom joints to connect custom-finished molecular spheres. Design and fabrication of suspension method for the entire piece using only 4 attachment points. Logistics of fabrication in the United States and installation in Israel added interesting challenges to the process.
